can not connect my netgear router

I had try serveral times to connect through my router to the internet, but I am unable to connect to the router of it slef.
Type of Router: Netgear Model: wgt624 verison 3
However if i disconnect the cable from my computer from the router to the cable modem I am then able to connect to the internet. However I should be able to connect to the internet from my router.

could be a firmware issue with the router

my router is a netgear rp614v2. i can connect to the internet ok but i cannot access the ip address 192.168.0.1? it works ok in XP but not VISTA 5384
